OVERVIEW OF THE NATURAL VISION
TEACHER-COACH TRAINING PROGRAM
The two-week on-site classroom portion of the
training will be an immersion in
the Bates techniques and other tools, with time each day to practice working with classmates. We will cover a lot
of material, but in a
relaxed and enjoyable
way; this is the heart of the Bates Method! The training is also a great
way to improve your own eyesight and find new fluidity in your mind and
body.
The eight video conference classes
add a lot of flexibility to
this training. For people traveling far, only one trip is required to Colorado.
And we retain the advantage of spreading out the training. The video conference
classes continue the training, and offer a timely forum for successes and issues
that come up in the practicum settings.
Natural Vision Coaching for improved
results. Successful vision improvement comes through remaining
motivated and dedicated to doing the vision activities, making changes that
allow for a more relaxed lifestyle and letting go of subtle strain in the mind
and body. "Natural Vision Coach" conveys a
powerful message for a client toward taking charge of their own
vision. The 2010 training results in
a new “Natural Vision Teacher/Coach”
Certification. We will embrace the Bates Method as the central approach while
adding the wonderful art and science of coaching, to help people sustain their
enthusiasm and get better results.
Qualifications. Natural Vision Teacher-Coach backgrounds vary widely. Ideal candidates have a strong
affinity for natural healing approaches including emotional healing, enjoy
teaching groups and/or individuals, and thrive on helping each student find the
right mix of insight, techniques, and faith to improve their own eyesight.
You don't have to have perfect eyesight
to attend the training. Upon completion you
should have a solid grasp of the Bates Method and related approaches
or to be helpful as a Natural Vision
Teacher-Coach. The training program is a great setting to learn new
subtleties that will help you make new progress with your own
vision.
Training format uses an easy-to-absorb mix of lecture, hands-on
learning, practice teaching one-on-one, and practice teaching of groups, with
classmates. The
Training will give you a clear understanding of the Bates Method and other
helpful modalities for Natural Vision Improvement. Practice time with fellow
students during the class days will help you build your confidence in teaching these
principles to others.
Practicum experience. We will help you design a practicum experience that is a
good match for your teaching style, geographic area, and the audience that you
wish to teach (age groups, classes vs. individual, etc.).
You will receive helpful
guidance for your practicum teaching experience, to help you feel success
starting with your first practicum clients.
Certification.
Upon successful
completion of the training program and practicum, you will be certified as a
Natural Vision Teacher-Coach. You may want to refer to yourself as simply a
Natural Vision Teacher or Natural Vision Coach if one of these identities
resonates better with you. Currently no state or country regulates or requires
licensing of coaches. All of the major coaching organizations are strongly
motivated to maintain this status, because it reflects the simple and
encouraging nature of the coaching process. You may want to join the
International Coaching Federation or a local coaching organization in your city,
state, or region.
Non-medical. A
Certified Natural Vision Teacher is not a medical practitioner or a therapist,
but instead can help students learn and absorb these amazing and subtle
principles for better visual function, and often a more relaxed and vital
lifestyle as well. Always have students sign a waiver to ensure they take
responsibility to receive appropriate medical vision care, and have them
acknowledge their understanding that Natural Vision Improvement is an
educational, not medical, approach.
Cost of Training
Program. The full price of this 200 hour program is $2650, with
discounts for early registration and early payments. Please contact us for
details including payment schedule options.
Partial listing of
Training Program Content:
- Learn the key Bates Method techniques and
ways to apply them for different people and different eyesight
conditions.
- Learn advanced Bates techniques, practice
them, and learn what conditions they can help, and why.
- Learn a simple
coaching model for helping clients to clarify and accomplish goals, and to
remain motivated and enthusiastic.
- Learn and use EFT throughout the training
program, a powerful, simple, and unobtrusive way to dissolve emotional
components that keep people from seeing. (Offering EFT does not require
practitioner certification; see link under Prerequisites, below)
- Learn natural vision applications for
complimentary techniques such as BrainGym, rebounder (mini-trampoline)
techniques, guided visualizations, breathing exercises, acupressure, “feeling
the visual pathway”, fostering a dialog between the eyes and brain, a martial
art form for loosening tight vision.
- Wherever possible, learning will be
hands-on, learn-by-doing
- Practice of vision activities regularly
throughout class times, to absorb techniques and help establish a sense of
commitment.
- Special considerations and suggestions for
children.
- Key nutritional points, including cutting
edge supplements and other niche products that report good
results.
- Learn popular names, books, and approaches
for vision improvement so you are informed when people ask about them. For
example, Roberto Kaplan, Jacob Liberman, the See Clearly Method and other “eye
exercise” programs, micro-current stimulation, Accomotrac, color therapy,
essential oils, etc. An overview of behavioral optometry will be
included.
- A review of lasik including common
problems, and ways to be sensitive and helpful to people who have difficulties
after lasik or other eye surgery.
- How people with “eye diseases” can be
helped; examples. (Never purport to replace medical treatment, only provide
suggestions to let go of visual strain patterns to promote natural
healing)
- Legal precautions, and the need to present
your teaching always as an educational approach, never as any sort of medical
intervention.
- Business considerations; ways to promote services and
make an income as a Natural Vision Teacher. Solid suggestions for efficient
promoting and networking of your service, including creating a website that will
come up in searches.
Market Niche for
Natural Vision Teacher-Coaches
There is a shortage of
Natural Vision Teachers in every geographic area. If you are
comfortable with groups, you will probably enjoy doing several-week classes and
weekend workshops. If you prefer one-on-one teaching, individual
consultations can be a very gratifying and creative venue. It's a unique
offering that is fascinating, enjoyable, and improves one's health. You can
offer Natural Vision encouragement and support to people who will not find this
resource anywhere else.
Most people do not succeed by simply applying what they read in a book, because
the mind tries to turn everything into hard work. Your personal support will
help many people to discover how to heal their own vision.
You can make a good living as a Natural Vision
Teacher-Coach. As you become experienced, an hourly rate of $75 to
$125 or more is very achievable for this unique service. Some teachers are able give complimentary or inexpensive sessions. But it is feasible to provide this great service and support yourself! Weekly suppport groups
and workshops can also be a good income source. It will be helpful if you have a
bit of an entrepreneurial streak, or enjoy talking to
individuals or groups about natural health approaches. If you happen to already
practice massage or EFT, "energy work", etc., Natural Vision work can be a great
compliment to attract new clients, or to provide enhanced service to your
existing clients.
Eye disease deserves special mention. Often eye
doctors don't have the time to support clients emotionally after they give their
patients a dreadful diagnosis. The patients often feel like they have lost
control of their lives, and sink into a state of fear that ironically makes
their vision deteriorate more. The Natural Vision Teacher-Coach can help them
understand that Bates Techniques are very relaxing and empowering and can
sharpen their vision. Of course it is absolutely imperative that they agree (on
your waiver form) to remain under a doctor's care, and that you do not give any
medical advice or give the impression you are diagnosing or treating them in any
way. What the Natural Vision Teacher-Coach offers is very much like
yoga, meditation, and visualization, which have each been proven to be helpful
for virtually every disease.
Travel and
Accommodations
-
For air travel, the Denver International Airport (DIA)
is served by numerous airlines. Southwest is often least expensive. You may want
to travel back home halfway through the training, during the 4-day weekend. Or,
you may want to visit Boulder, Estes Park/Rocky Mountain Park, or other nearby
popular mountain destinations. -
Hourly airport shuttle service is available from
Shamrock Shuttle. -
Local transportation - you don't really need a car.
Vision Improvement Center is near College Ave. and Drake. Whole Foods Market, a
major grocery and other stores and restaurants are just a few blocks away.
Campus is about 1.5 miles north on College, downtown just a few blocks further.
More shopping is south on College. College Ave. has regular bus service. If you
do need a car for the weekend, Enterprise Car Rental is
nearby. -
Bike-friendly. Fort Collins has lots of bike paths and
bike lanes, and it is easy to rent a bike or buy a used one. The City is also
piloting a free "bike library". -
Where to stay? We can help you find economical lodging,
from a hotel to a shared house rental. Horsetooth Reservoir Campground is about
a 20 minute drive, in the foothills. And there are several hotels within 1 to 3
miles. Please let us know if you are interested in sharing with another
student. -
Lunch and breaks. Whole Foods is fun and convenient for
lunch. We have a nice area to eat if you want to bring your lunch. We'll provide
some simple snacks. (If you have a big mac attack, there's even a McDonald's
close by.)
